How to shrink swollen gums that are around your wisdom tooh?

I have this swollen gum on my wisdom tooth and I can't really bite down properly, I don't want some pain relievers, I want the swollen gums to be down. Will gargling water with salt work? or any other ideas? and also how long will the swelling be gone if I just leave it
