What was the real meaning of hip-hop/rap?

Just listen to old school rap and ignore mainstream rap. The Majority of rap today is from people that won't even release a sophmore album. Most songs are snap songs that have a dance to them, and the lyrics suck. That's how it's different from old school. There are some dope rappers from today's age, but they aren't getting enough publicity to get noticed.
