I received a grant, I also received two different loan opportunities.. help!!!

Okay, I know the grant will pay for school and I don't have to pay it back.. my question now being, after the grant I am left with very little for books, am I allowed to accept the federal subsidized loan to help with my books and other expenses or is that only for tuition? I am new to this financial aid and have not been in college for years... please help... thanks..
