How do i close internet explorer while i install a program?

OK, i know you have to close it with the BIG fat X at the top of the page....i tried that and its not working, and i also tried with the ctrl+alt+delete and it doest show it on the window that appears, that the internet explorer is open...how can i close it...?Im installing a program that requires to close internet explorer
